Attock (Breaking News, August 16, 2015): Punjab Home Minister Col (r) Shuja Khanzada was trapped under the rubble and eight others were killed in a blast at his political office in Shadi Khan near Attock on Sunday.
According to details, Shuja Khanzada was hearing the matters of masses and has sustained severe wounds in the blast. Roof of the office caved in due to explosion entrapping more than 30 people under the rubble.
According to initial report, a suicide bomber carried out the attack.
Police and security officers have cordoned off the entire and launched an investigation into the matter. It is reported that Inspector General (IG) Punjab and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar have demanded a helicopter for rescue efforts.
Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the blast and directed to speed up rescue activities.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has condemned the attack, while Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has also expressed condolences for the people killed in the blast.
Nisar has directed for provision of a helicopter from the Interior Ministry for shifting the injured on emergency basis, while he has also instructed army and air force personnel to aid in the rescue operation.
The ISPR said that special search and rescue team have been dispatched by helicopter to aid in the rescue operation in Attock.
Hospitals in Rawalpindi and Islamabad have been put on high alert due to the high number of expected casualties from the explosion.
Rescue 1122 spokesperson Deeba Shahnaz confirmed that five bodies have been recovered from the rubble of the building.
“We responded as soon as we received information from Attock. So far, five people have expired while three have been recovered alive. The injured are critical and have immediately been shifted to the Attock District Headqaurters (DHQ) hospital Attock,” Shahnaz told Media.
