Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Match Preview
Chelsea’s last couple of home results and Crystal Palace’s away form means the Saturday lunchtime Premier League match could be closer than the bookmakers think.
Frank Lampard’s youthful side continue to impress, with seven consecutive away wins in all competitions and a rousing recovery from 4-1 down to draw 4-4 against nine-man Ajax in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
The Blues are a great watch, especially for a neutral, but Lampard will be concerned at how many goals his team are conceding and they lost their previous home game 2-1 to Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.
There will surely be a warning to his players here from Lampard about how Palace have fared away to the big clubs this season, for they beat Manchester United at Old Trafford and hit back from 2-0 down to draw with Arsenal.
In addition, albeit with a large slice of help from VAR, they won at West Ham and a position in the top half of the table for the Eagles so far will be pleasing for manager Roy Hodgson.
We are not saying Palace will take a tangible reward from this game, but they are expected to put up another strong fight and if Chelsea are to claim three points then the margin may well be narrower than the bookmakers’ odds suggest.
