England faces a major test of their World Cup credentials when they take on defending champions France in a grand quarter-final tonight.

Gareth Southgate’s side edged past Senegal after topping Pool B, but this is now a significant step in their bid to reach the semi-finals for the third major tournament in a row.

England will imagine their chances of reaching Qatar if they manage to get through, such is the threat France represents.

Much of that comes from Kylian Mbappe, with the 23-year-old sweeping the World Cup so far. He already has five goals and two assists to his credit in the tournament, and stopping him looks to be the key for England.
