Big Bash League 2020-21 Schedule | BBL 10 Fixtures, Teams, Venues

BBL 2020 will be the 10th season of the premier men’s T20 league in Australia. This season of Big Bash League will run from 10 December 2020 to 6 February 2021, with 8 teams playing 6 matches. Sydney Sixers are the last year’s BBL winners.

The BBL 10 will have 61 matches. All the teams will play each other twice, totaling 56 regular season matches. At the end of the league stage, the top five teams will advance to the Playoff phase.

There will be five matches in the Playoff phase: The Eliminator, The Qualifier, The Knock-Out, The Challenger, and The Final. The Eliminator will be played between the fifth and fourth-placed teams. The losing side will be knocked out, and the winner will face the third-placed team in The Knock-Out. The team losing this game will be out of the competition, and the winner will play The Challenger.

The Qualifier will be played between the top two teams of the BBL points table. The winner will directly advance to the final, whereas the losing side will play The Challenger. The winning team of The Challenger will join the winner of The Qualifier in The Final.

If Sydney Sixers manage to win this season, they would equal Perth Scorchers’ record of three title wins and two consecutive title wins.

In BBL 2020, teams will be allowed to feature three overseas players in their playing XIs. The addition of one more overseas player will increase the squad size to 19.

Big Bash League Venues

The venues have been confirmed only for the first 21 matches up until 31 December. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, teams will play home games at neutral venues.

What’s new in Big Bash League 2020

Power Surge, X-Factor Player, and Bash Boost are the three new rules introduced before the tenth edition of Big Bash League.

Power Surge

The Power Surge will consist of two overs where the fielding side can only have two players outside the inner circle. The batting side can opt for it anytime from the 11th onwards. With the introduction of Power Surge, the Powerplay at the beginning of the innings has been reduced to four overs.

X-Factor Player

Teams can substitute an X-Factor player at the 10 over the mark in the first inning. The player, named 12th or 13th on the team sheet, can replace any player who is yet to bat or has bowled an over or less.

Bash Boost

Bash Boost is a bonus point that will be awarded midway during the second inning. The chasing side will be awarded the bonus point “if they’re above the equivalent 10-over score of their opposition”. If the chasing side fails to do so, then the bonus point will be awarded to the fielding team. With the increase of points awarded for a win from two to three and the introduction of Bash Boost, now a team can score a maximum of four points in a match.
