The first genuine test of the World Cup for rejuvenated France comes with their second-round tie against Nigeria in Brasilia, Brazil.
French head coach Didier Deschamps has overseen a tremendous group stage with a table-topping finish in Group E.
Four years after their implosion in South Africa, Les Bleus scored eight goals in their opening two victories over Switzerland and Honduras before a 0-0 draw with Ecuador stopped them from adding more.
With three goals and two assists, Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has proved to be a star of the show up front alongside Olivier Giroud of Arsenal.
However, the work of Blaise Matuidi, Yohan Cabaye and Paul Pogba in the dynamic three-man French midfield cannot be underestimated, and John Obi Mikel and his team-mates will need to be sharp to counter that threat.
However, Nigeria will be boosted by their qualification from Group F, where only the individual brilliance of Lionel Messi denied them a surprise result against Argentina.
This might not be a vintage Super Eagles team, but Stephen Keshi’s side still have enough talent to test France.
