Chasing 148 in a must-win tie against Zimbabwe, Preston Mommsen, the skipper, and Richie Berrington put on a fight but the lack of support meant they eventually fell short by 11 runs.
They were well on course in their opening fixture against Afghanistan as George Munsey and Kyle Koetzer started well but as wickets fell, the pressure caught up on them and they fell short by 14 runs. The tournament so far, has been about ‘almost getting over’ the line for Scotland. Frustratingly, they failed twice but now have the chance, sans any pressure, to turn their fortunes around as far as numbers go.
Scotland have an unnecessary distinction to their name. They have played 20 games across World Cups since 1999, losing 19 and having one fixture washed out. On Saturday (March 12), in their final fixture of the World T20 2016, they will hope to stop the rut and get one over Hong Kong.
Hong Kong too seemed promising in their chase against Zimbabwe but the lack of performances from middle-order has cost them dearly. Barring James Atkinson’s half-century and Tanwir Afzal’s late-order surge in their opening game, Hong Kong’s batting has been listless. Against Afghanistan, they succumbed to Mohammad Nabi’s spin bowling, that ultimately brought down the curtains on their campaign.
