ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Justice Umar Ata Bandial was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of Pakistan on Wednesday.
President Dr. Arif Alvi was sworn in as the new Chief Justice in a ceremony at the Presidential House.
Prime Minister Imran Khan, federal ministers, department heads, judges and members of the legal fraternity attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial, who is the longest-serving Supreme Court Justice, will be Pakistan’s 28th Chief Justice. He took office as Chief Justice of the County following the retirement of Justice Gulzar Ahmed as Chief Justice of Pakistan yesterday.
Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Tuesday presented his roadmap for the functioning of the Supreme Court under his leadership. “Differences in judges’ opinions on issues of law arise from our individual perceptions, and this diversity enriches our understanding,” he said. “This is how yesterday’s minority opinion can become tomorrow’s majority opinion.
CJ Bandial will hold the position until September 16, 2023.
