With an eye on history, Afghanistan will host Pakistan in the second T20I of the five-match series on Sunday (March 24). The team led by Rashid Khan recorded a shock victory over Pakistan in the 1st T20I. It was their first win over Pakistan in any format. A victory in the second T20I will see Afghanistan record a historic series victory over the runners-up of the T20 World Cup 2022.
The opening T20I was a low scoring affair. Opting to bat first, Pakistan only managed a total of 92/9 on the board. Imad Wasim, who scored 18 of 32 balls, was the leading run scorer for the Men in Green in the match. The left-handed hitter couldn’t hit any limit or a six on his own.
Tayyab Tahir (16 for 9) and Shadab Khan (12) made vital contributions in the total of 92. Mujeeb ur Rahman only conceded 9 runs in his spell of four and tore off 2 wickets.
Afghanistan also got off to a below parr start and had lost four wickets for 45 inside the first 10 overs. Senior all-rounder Mohammad Nabi stepped up and went unbeaten with 38 of the balls to propel his team to victory.
He shared a 53-run match-winning partnership with Najibullah Zadran, who remained unbeaten on 17 of 23 balls.
Pakistan have reached the series without the services of their first-choice players Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammed Rizwan. Shadab Khan leads the team in Babar’s absence.
