The 10th edition of KFC Big Bash League kicks off on Thursday (10 December) when the Hobart Hurricanes take on defending champions Sidney Sixers in their opening match at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
Visitors see a more organized side with the help of all-rounder and Moises Henriques in their ranks. While Sixers James Vince and Josh Phillip kept the inning in full swing, they had the firepower of Jason Holder, Carlos Brathwaite, and Daniel Christian shooting lanterns to end.
In the bowling department, he can call upon the fast trio of Thomas Rogers, Nicholas Bertus, and Ben Dwarshuis, as well as spinning Lloyd Pope and orthodox left-hander Steve OKeefe.
The Hurricanes also feature a brilliant squad, led by Captain Peter Handscomb, who scored 58 and 80 points in the last two T20Is against India. However, the services of David Malan (quarantined until December 18), Chemo Paul (available from December 25) and Sandeep Lamichane (available from early January) are largely non-existent.
Although his hitting skills are at D’Arcy Short, Wade, Peter Handscomb, and Colin Ingram, the Hurricanes bowling team is inexperienced. James Faulkner remains a funding option, but like Scott Boland, Riley Meredith and Nathan Ellis will not pose much of a threat to the Sixers star.
The start of the season, however, means both teams will start again and come back without momentum. While the Sixers wagon will seek to escape death, the Storm batsmen will strive to increase the dubbing maximum for the opening game of BBL 2020-21.
