Brazil vs Senegal
Brazil meet Senegal in the first ever H2H meeting with the ‘Seleção’ looking to bounce back after a shock 1-0 loss to Peru last month. That was their first friendly loss since June, 2017 and they’ve not lost back-to-back matches of any kind since July, 2014.
Friendlies do form a large part of Brazil’s schedule, quite often on neutral territory. They’re winless in their last two friendlies, something which last occurred in 2013. However, it’s 38 wins from their last 43 friendly games, with an incredible 31 of those wins coming with a clean sheet.
Senegal play in only their second official friendly international since June, 2018. They are, however, in great form overall, winning 15 of their last 18 internationals (L3), with a staggering 13 of those victories coming ‘to nil’. Nonetheless, five of their last ten friendly matches ended draws, three of which were 0-0.
Aliou Cissé’s team came so close to winning the African Cup of Nation’s only a few months ago after reaching the final, only to lose to Algeria. They did fail to progress out of their group at the 2018 World Cup, meaning they’ve only beaten one non-Asian or African opponent since 2010 in an official FIFA game, which was Poland at the World Cup.
Players to watch: Neymar has scored 42 of his 61 goals for Brazil in friendlies (68.85%). Three of his last four came from the penalty spot.
Senegal will face a full strength Selecao side that have the likes of Neymar, Dani Alves, Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Casemiro on their roster.
Teranga Lions coach Aliou Cisse has also included his best players in his squad.
Thursday’s match would be the Teranga Lions’ first game since losing the Afcon final to Algeria in July.
