Egypt last won AFCON in 2010, capping a run of three titles in a row. Senegal have never won this tournament, but they came second in the 2019 event. Can they take that extra step and win it all on Sunday?
Egypt came to this place after beating Cameroon on penalties in the semi-finals. Neither team scored a goal during the match, but Egypt advanced 3-1 in PK.
Senegal defeated Burkina Faso 3-1 in the semi-finals, scoring all of their goals in the last 20 minutes. PSG’s Abdou Diallo scored the goal for Senegal, followed by a goal from PSG midfielder Idrissa Gueye and Liverpool’s Sadio Mane.
While these nations will meet again in World Cup qualifiers in March, this matchup is the first between the countries since 2014. Senegal won both meetings that year during the Africa Cup of Nations. Egypt last beat Senegal in 2006.
