The third Test of England’s tour of the UAE in October and November, 2015, will be held at the iconic Sharjah Cricket Stadium, famous for its One-Day Internationals (OD1Is) in the 1980s and 1990s. Its first two Tests were played in 2002 between Pakistan and West Indies, and the next two, also in that same year, between Pakistan and Australia, as the Australian team were not keen on visiting Pakistan for security reasons.
The last Test played here was between Pakistan and New Zealand late last year, in a match New Zealand won by an innings and 80 runs to draw the series 1-1. That match was paused for a day due to the death of Australian batsman Phil Hughes, and when it resumed New Zealand wore black bands and played aggressively to dominate Pakistan.
Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq lead the run charts at the venue, but with middling averages of 36.21 and 40.12. They are followed by Mohammad Yousuf, who scored 270 runs at an average of 90. Shane Warne, the leg spinner, leads the wickets charts with 16 wickets in four innings, at a remarkable average of 9.62. His spells were crucial for his team to register two convincing wins out of the two matches played here.
