Alex Hales and Paul Sterling lead Islamabad United to nine-wicket win over Peshawar Zalmi

Alex Hales and Paul Sterling lead Islamabad United to a nine-wicket win over Peshawar Zalmi in the fifth match of the 2022 HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) seventh edition at the National Stadium, Karachi.

A starting position of 112 runs between Sterling and Hales chased the goal to 169 runs in 15.5 overs. Hales had 82 no-outs, while Sterling pocketed his fifty on just 18 balls and scored 57.

All of Zalmi’s bowlers were questioned as United outclassed them in every way to start their 2022 PSL season on a high.

Sherfane Rutherford’s 70 run knockout helped Peshawar Zalmi post 168 runs for the cost of six wickets in 20 overs after Islamabad United invited them to beat first in PSL 7.

Zalmi was in serious trouble at one point when his four batsmen were fired for just 35 runs, but the combination of Shoaib Malik (25) and Rutherford saved the day.

Hasan Ali and Faheem Ashraf took two wickets, while Mohammad Wasim and Shadab Khan each took one wicket.

Earlier, Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan won the coin toss and chose to kick first against Peshawar Zalmi.
