Rohit Sharma created history, becoming the first man ever to smash two double centuries in ODIs. Rohit got his second double ton (264 runs 173 balls) vs Sri Lanka in Eden Gardens on Thursday.
His first (209) came against Australia in Bangalore on November 3, 2013. Rohit also surpassed Virender Sehwag’s 219 to become the highest-scorer in ODIs.
Rohit’s epic essay of 200 came off 151 balls and included 25 fours and 5 sixes. Rohit survived an early dropped chance (when he was on 4) and capitalised well to make his way into the record books.
Rohit, playing in his first ODI after injuring his hand in India’s tour of England, took time to get his eye in after stand-in skipper Kohli won his first toss of the series and elected to bat. However, following the dismissals of Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayudu, Rohit and Kohli came together to plot India’s fightback.

Rohit Sharma created history on Thursday at Eden Gardens, scoring the highest ever total for a batsman in an ODI innings. Sharma was dismissed off the final delivery of the Indian innings, scoring 264 runs off just 173 balls, to end with a strike rate of 152.6.
Sharma made his comeback to the ODI scene, after a long lay-off with injury, and did so in style. He now also hold the record of being the only international batsman to score two double centuries in ODI cricket, after recording the same feat against Australia in 2013. The previous record was held by fellow Indian batsman Virender Sehwag at 219 runs.
Rohit Sharma started off the innings slow, with the wickets of Rahane and Rayudu falling early. He helped to build the innings with Virat Kohli, and then proceeded to explode in the latter overs, striking 33 fours and 9 sixes in his innings.
This once again shows the depth of the Indian batting talent, which will be a huge force to be reckoned with in the upcoming world cup.
