Shawwal moon was not sighted anywhere in Pakistan on Sunday hence Eid-ul-Fitr will be on Saturday, May 3, 2022.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is meeting today (Sunday) to sight the moon of Shawal 1443 AH, which will decide the first day of Eid ul Fitr 2022.
The main meeting of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is being held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony in Islamabad with Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad in the chair, while the zonal committees are sighting the Shawwal crescent in their respective areas.
Maulana Azad will announce the final decision about the sighting of the crescent.
At present, the age of the moon is 17 hours, and according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the age of the moon must be 19 hours in order to sight it.
Meanwhile, the meeting of Ruet-e-Hilal’s zonal committee is underway in Peshawar too and according to the PMD, the duration of sighting the moon in the provincial capital would be 37 minutes. On the other hand, the time of citing the moon in Lahore and Karachi has finished and the moon has not been sighted there.
If the moon is spotted today, Pakistan will mark Eidul Fitr tomorrow (Monday).
However, the PMD said that there are no chances of the Shawwal moon being sighted today due to unsuitable weather conditions, and therefore, Eidul Fitr may fall on Tuesday in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, South Waziristan in Pakistan and Afghanistan are celebrating Eid today after sighting the Shawwal moon yesterday.
