The first match of the Group E between Switzerland and Ecuador gets underway on June 15 at Estadia Nacional de Brasilia.
The sixth ranked Switzerland are being considered by many as one of the dark horses of the 2014 World Cup, and are expected to surprise everyone. Coached by the experienced German Ottmar Hitzfeld, Switzerland has been transformed into a bold European power driven on by blossoming players who shone at youth tournaments since 2009. The Swiss will be expected to win this match and are the favorites to top the group too, with France being the only tough opposition they will have to face.
Ecuador, on the other hand will benefit from the fact that the tournament is being held in South America, and will want to make the best use of the conditions to which they are very well suited, to keep the group wide open.
Switzerland scored 17 goals in 10 qualifiers and Ecuador just 20 in 16 matches, so the first match in the Brazilian capital is not likely to be a high-scoring encounter.
