Pakistani folk singer Nirmala Maghani’s legal team has served legal notice worth Rs. 100 million on Zulfikar Khan, also known as Xulfi, for copyright infringement of hit song Tu Jhoom, which was sung by legendary singers in Coke Studio Season 14.

Following criticism of the hit song for plagiarism, Xulfi, who replaced Rohail Hyatt in the music franchise’s latest edition, was accused of stealing the song from the Umerkot singer.

The notice quoted “Under copyright laws, you do not have the right to broadcast, transmit or upload to YouTube any such song unless you have obtained permission from my client, because it is made based on my client’s notes and composition.”

“You are invited to apply [for] and obtain permission or license from my client and, unless such permission is granted, remove the song from all social media websites, YouTube and the [album] of Coke Studio 14 because it violates my client’s rights,” he added.

The notice also mentioned that Khan was instructed to refrain from using the phrase “client” in Tu Jhoom and to file an affidavit in writing, failing which the client would receive another notice within seven days. days.

Maghani previously claimed to have sent a sample to Xulfi to get a spot as lead artist in CS 14, while he was surprised to listen to Tu Jhoom when he realized that one of the melodies that he had sent had been used in the song without any . acknowledgement.

Following the legal notice, the company co-founded by Xulfi released a statement in response to the notice.

“We received notice last night and our legal team will respond through the appropriate channels in due course. As such, we are compelled to limit our responses out of respect for the legal process initiated by Ms. Maghani,” the statement read.
