Lokesh Bam, leading the NPL run race after six matches.

Six matches into NPL Season 3, both individual races have clear leaders and plenty of chasers. Lokesh Bam sits at the top of the run charts with 113 runs from two innings, built on his 87 against Karnali, while 17-year-old Rahul Yadav leads the wicket charts with six scalps from his first two matches. Neither lead is safe: Saturday’s double-header (Lumbini against Chitwan at 12:30 PM NST and Sudurpaschim against Biratnagar at 5:00 PM NST) can change both tables before the weekend is out.

Bam leads the run race

Lokesh Bam’s lead comes from two very different innings: 26 against Chitwan in Match 2, then 87 off 52 balls against Karnali in Match 6, with three fours and nine sixes — the highest individual score of the season so far and the most sixes in a single innings. His 113 runs put him ahead of Sudurpaschim captain Dipendra Singh Airee, who has 78 runs from 27 against Lumbini and an unbeaten 51 against Pokhara.

Janakpur’s Moeen Ali sits third with 77 runs, from 19 against Karnali and an unbeaten 58 against Kathmandu, followed by Karnali’s Ariful Islam on 75 runs and his teammate Pawan Sarraf on 73. Dawid Malan’s 70 against Biratnagar, the only fifty in Chitwan’s single match so far, rounds out the top six, and with Chitwan playing again on Saturday, his position is immediately under threat.

Rahul leads the wicket race

Rahul Yadav’s six wickets have come in a dream start: two for 15 on debut against Karnali in Match 3, including a wicket with his first ball, then four for 31 against Kathmandu in Match 5, where he was named Player of the Match. At 17, he leads a chart full of senior names.

Two bowlers sit one behind on five wickets each: Karnali captain Sompal Kami, with one wicket against Janakpur and four for 33 against Biratnagar, and Sudurpaschim’s Anil Kharel, with two for 9 against Lumbini and three for 23 against Pokhara. Four bowlers share fourth place on four wickets: Lumbini’s Kishor Mahato with four for 22 against Sudurpaschim, Chitwan’s Kamal Singh Airee with four for 26 against Biratnagar, Janakpur captain Harmeet Singh with four across two matches, and Biratnagar’s Angelo Mathews with four across two matches.

Single-match bests so far

Beyond the aggregates, the first six matches have already set marks worth chasing. Bam’s 87 is the highest score and carries the most sixes in an innings with nine, ahead of Malan’s five sixes in his 70. Kishor Mahato’s four for 22 against Sudurpaschim in the season opener stands as the best bowling figures of the season so far, ahead of Kamal Singh Airee’s four for 26, Rahul Yadav’s four for 31 and Sompal Kami’s four for 33.

Sompal’s Match 6 also stands out as the only all-round headline of the season so far: four wickets followed by an unbeaten 62 in the same match, sealing a chase of 187 with one ball left. No other player has yet topped both charts in a single game.

What moves next

Saturday’s double-header is the first chance for these tables to change. Lumbini against Chitwan at 12:30 PM NST puts Malan’s 70 and Mahato’s four wickets back in play, while Sudurpaschim against Biratnagar at 5:00 PM NST gives Bam the chance to stretch his lead and Airee the chance to close it. Janakpur against Pokhara follows on Sunday at 5:00 PM NST, with Moeen Ali and Rahul Yadav both in action again.

Totals here cover the first six matches only. Every match from here to 15 November can reorder both races, and the final tables will be settled long before the playoffs begin on 17 November.
