IPL 2021 is all set to return to India

The season kicks off in Chennai on April 9, 2021, with a high octane match between defending champions Mumbai Indian and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The largest cricket stadium in the world – Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad – host the playoffs as well as the final on May 30, 2021, promising to be a visual spectacle. The newly built stadium, which hosts India’s second Pink Ball match at home, will host its first-ever IPL.

Each team plays at four venues in the league stage matches. Out of the 56 matches in the league, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata & Bengaluru will host 10 matches each, while Ahmedabad and Delhi will host 8 matches each. One of the highlights of this edition of the VIVO IPL is the fact that all matches will play in neutral venues and no team will play at home. All teams play in 4 out of 6 venues during the league matches.

There will a total of 11 doubleheaders, with 6 teams playing three-afternoon matches and two teams playing the two-afternoon matches. Afternoon matches start at 3:30 pm IST, while evening matches start at 7:30 pm IST.

After hosting the IPL 2020 safely and successfully in the UAE last year with all safety protocols, BCCI is confident that the IPL takes place at home, with the health and safety of the players and everyone involved being of utmost importance.

Tournament distribution is mapped so that each team only travels three times during the league matches, which reduces communication and minimizes risks. This year’s VIVO IPL at home will play behind closed doors and calls will made to spectators at the next stage of the tournament.
