Monday’s first game is a meeting of the league’s two extremes. Kathmandu Gorkhas face Karnali Yaks in NPL Season 3 Match 10 at TU Ground, Kirtipur, on Monday, 2 November 2026, starting at 12:30 PM NST. Kathmandu have played once and lost it, while Karnali have won both their matches and sit alone at the top of the table. Camp talk has pointed at this match as a possible arrival for David Warner, but that remains a hint, not a confirmation — and the playing XIs are only confirmed at the toss.

Gorkhas still searching
Kathmandu’s season started with a defeat that exposed the batting. The Gorkhas were bowled out for 115 in 19.3 overs against Janakpur in Match 5 and lost by eight wickets, with Bhim Sharki’s 33 off 29 balls the top score and captain Karan KC making 8 off 18 balls and bowling two overs for 18 runs without a wicket. Ripon Mondol was the only Kathmandu bowler to take a wicket, with one for 17.
Karan captains the side in all three seasons and leads the franchise with 25 NPL wickets, and Monty Desai coaches the team. The players to watch are K.S. Bharat, Arachchige and Warner — and the Warner question hangs over the match, with camp talk pointing at this game as a possible arrival, but nothing confirmed. Kathmandu sit on zero points with a net run rate of minus 0.942, and a first win on Monday would change the whole shape of their season.
Yaks setting the pace
Karnali could hardly have started better. The Yaks defended 132 for 9 against Janakpur in Match 3, winning by 19 runs, then chased 187 against Biratnagar in Match 6 and won by four wickets with one ball left. Captain Sompal Kami was Player of the Match in that win, hitting an unbeaten 62 off 32 balls and taking four wickets for 33 runs, with Gulshan Jha unbeaten on 28 off 21 balls in an unbroken 64-run stand and Mark Watt taking one wicket for 23 runs including a maiden over.
Sompal captains the side, with Gyanendra Malla as head coach, and the players to watch are Akbar Ali and Mark Watt. Karnali’s chase in Match 6 was the highest successful chase of the season so far, with 373 runs scored in the match — the highest aggregate after six matches. Karnali sit alone at the top with four points and a net run rate of plus 0.533, and a third straight win on Monday would keep them clear at the summit.
What to watch
The captain duel is the heart of this game. Karan is Kathmandu’s most reliable bowler across all three seasons, and Sompal has just produced the best all-round performance of the season so far. Kathmandu’s batting has to answer the question Match 5 asked (115 all out is not a total that wins games at Kirtipur), while Karnali’s bowling has already defended a low total and survived a high chase.
Then there is the Warner question. The signing is confirmed, the arrival is not, and the playing XIs are confirmed only at the toss on match day. If he walks out at Kirtipur on Monday, it changes the match completely; if he does not, Kathmandu still have to find a first win with the side that lost to Janakpur.
