Islamabad United will kick off their Pakistani Super League (PSL) campaign by taking on in-form Peshawar Zalmi at the National Cricket Stadium in Karachi.
The match starts at 2:30 p.m. (PST).
Two-time defending champions Islamabad United will enter the pitch with confidence as they have a mix of experienced and young players in their squad. The leadership of United captain Shadab Khan will play a key role in United’s performance against Zalmi.
Sixth edition PSL runner-up Zalmi made a winning start to his PSL campaign by winning his opening game against Quetta Gladiators by five wickets on Friday. Zalmi was without his captain Wahab Riaz and experienced drummer Kamran Akmal, but he still won. Arriving after recovering from COVID-19, Zalmi will be brimming with confidence when he takes to the pitch against United.
Face-to-face:
The two teams have faced each other on 16 occasions, with Peshawar Zalmi having a slight advantage over United as Yellow Storm have won eight games while United have won seven.
In the sixth edition of the PSL, Zalmi and United played three games against each other, with Zalmi winning two and United winning only one.
Today’s game between Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United will be entertaining as both teams will have their Playing XI players.
Key players:
Pakistan cricket team hero Asif Ali will be key to Islamabad United’s success this season. Asif’s exceptional striking and finishing skills will help Islamabad United reach greater heights.
We all got a glimpse of the spectacular stitching and wicket-taking skills of Mohammad Waseem Jr during the series against Bangladesh and West Indies. It will be a pleasure to see Wasim Jr at PSL 2022 and help United claim their third trophy.
Kamran Akmal, who recovered from COVID-19 and joined the training session yesterday, is Peshawar Zalmi’s top scorer. Hopefully in the seventh edition, Kamran will bring his spark and help Zalmi win his second game against United.
Zalmi captain Wahab Riaz, who also missed the opener against Gladiators Quetta, will return to the squad against United. Zalmi missed the experience and quality of the bowling offense against HQ, but with the return of the pacemaker in his left arm, the 2017 champions ticked all the boxes.
Possible game XI:
Islamabad United:
Alex Hales, Paul Stirling, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Asif Ali, Azam Khan, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Danish Aziz, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Hasan Ali, Marchant De Lange
Peshawar Zalmi:
Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Kamran Akmal, Haider Ali, Hussain Talat, Shoaib Malik, Sherfane Rutherford, Usman Qadir, Ben Cutting, Wahab Riaz, Sohail Khan, Pat Brown
