PSL 8 will bring exciting action as all PSL franchises strive to put in their best performance to take the top spot on the PSL points table.

The eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) promises to be the best ever as all six PSL franchises aim to win the coveted trophy in front of their fans.

Teams will be looking to score points and move up the PSL points table to secure the coveted four spots on the PSL points table and qualify for the PSL Playoffs.

All six franchises will need to finish in the top four spots of the PSL 8 scoring table in order to qualify for the PSL Playoffs.

Defending champions Lahore Qalandars will aim to become the first team in the competition’s history to defend their title, while two-time champions Islamabad United will be determined to remain the only team in the competition to win multiple titles.

Peshawar Zalmi, with a new captain, Pakistan captain Babar Azam, will hope to change his fortunes and win the title for the first time since the second season, while Multan hopes to continue his excellent performance in the previous edition and take it one step further this time to lift his second PSL title in three years.

Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings were two teams that failed to qualify for the PSL playoffs last season. Both sides have made massive changes to their roster and this time will be determined to qualify for the next round and go all the way to add to their titles every single one in PSL history.

Islamabad United, the most successful team in the tournament’s history, was the team that won the group stage (and topped the PSL points table) last time, breaking the record for most points in the table and winning in a single edition. PSL, recording 8 wins in the group stages.

Four venues, Karachi, Multan, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, have been confirmed to host PSL 8 this year, while PSL management is still thinking about adding Quetta to the list of potential venues for this year’s tournament.

The tournament will run from February 13 to March 19 and Multan will host the first match of the tournament between Multan Sultans and defending champions Lahore Qalandars. The tournament will take place simultaneously in Karachi and Multan before moving to Lahore and Rawalpindi for the second half of the competition. The PSL 8 final will take place at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

The competition to take the top four places on the PSL 2023 points table will be exciting as six teams look to win the grand prize on 19th March.

PSL 8 Points Table Criteria

The PSL points table is a list of teams in the league ranked according to their total points. Points are awarded to teams depending on their results in league matches. In the PSL group stage, teams receive two points for a win and one point for a no result or a draw.

The format of the tournament is two-round. Each team will face the other teams twice in the group stage to win the PSL points table. The top four teams advance to the playoffs.

The scoring system implemented in the PSL 2023 Scoreboard is the same as in previous editions of the PSL or any T20 Franchise League worldwide.

The ranking will be determined by the highest number of points scored after 10 matches in the group stage. Teams finishing in the top four places on the PSL points table will advance to the next round. Two points are awarded for a win, one point for a draw, and zero points for a loss.

The Super Over will be played if the match ends in a draw.

The following criteria will determine the places of the teams in the group stages:

1. The team with the highest points on PSL Points Table at the end of the group stage will finish in the first position.
2. If teams have an equal number of points on PSL Points Table, then the team with a higher net run rate will finish higher.
3. In case, the points and the net run rate are equal on PSL Points Table. The team with the highest number of wins in the group stage will finish higher.
4. If the above criteria are equal as well, then the team with fewer losses will finish higher in the table.
5. If all the criteria remain equal. The result of the head-to-head between the two teams will determine the league position.

Play-Offs

The PSL Playoffs are a series of matches that take place after the group stage of the league. The playoffs consist of two qualifying matches and an elimination match. The top four teams in the PSL 2023 points table advance to the playoffs at the end of the group stage.

In the qualifying match, the team that takes first place in the points table plays the team that takes second place. The winner of this match advances to the final and is one win away from becoming the PSL champion. The loser of this match goes to the second eliminator.

In the first knockout match, the second-placed team on the points table plays the third-placed team. The winner of this match advances to the 2nd eliminator to play the loser in the qualifying match, and the loser is relegated from the league.

The 2nd eliminator match is played between the loser of the qualification and the winner of the 1st eliminator. The winner of this match advances to the PSL finals, while the loser is relegated from the league.

The winner of the match will be determined by a super over if it ends in a tie. There will be an unlimited number of Super Overs until a clear winner is determined.
